Senior Backend Engineer
"About The Role"
About This Role
This isn't a job writing code in isolation—it's a chance to shape the distributed ledger technology that institutions like BlackRock, Robinhood, and Aave rely on daily. You'll work deep in the core infrastructure of Arbitrum, solving distributed systems problems that have never been solved at this scale before, backed by $124M in funding and a track record of securing billions in value across the Ethereum ecosystem.
What You'll Be Doing
Build and optimize the backend systems that power Arbitrum's core infrastructure, one of the most widely adopted Ethereum scaling solutions in web3
Solve intricate distributed systems challenges while improving the security, performance, and scalability of our decentralized architecture
Collaborate cross-functionally with research, product, and blockchain engineering teams to push the boundaries of what's achievable on-chain
Diagnose and resolve complex platform-level issues, providing technical guidance to both internal teams and external clients building on our stack
Maintain and evolve Nitro Testnode, our go-to development tool for teams running local Arbitrum environments
Contribute directly to infrastructure processing millions of transactions across a rapidly expanding network of Arbitrum chains
What We're Looking For
Proven experience designing and maintaining backend systems at scale, ideally within distributed or blockchain-based environments
Strong grasp of distributed systems principles—consensus, fault tolerance, and performance optimization under real-world constraints
Hands-on experience with smart contracts, crypto protocols, or Ethereum-adjacent technologies
Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where you're solving problems without a playbook
Excellent collaboration skills—you'll be working alongside some of the most respected engineers in the DeFi and web3 space
Solid command of Go, Rust, or similar languages used in high-performance backend and blockchain infrastructure work
Bonus Points
Direct experience contributing to Layer 2 scaling solutions, rollups, or Ethereum client development
Familiarity with Prysm, ZeroDev, or similar tools within the Arbitrum technology stack
Background in cryptography, consensus mechanisms, or blockchain security research
Active involvement in open-source blockchain or decentralized infrastructure projects
Why Join Us
Competitive compensation with meaningful equity in a company shaping Ethereum's future
Fully remote culture built around trust, autonomy, and deep technical ownership
Direct impact on infrastructure securing billions in value across the decentralized ecosystem
Work alongside industry-leading engineers and researchers at the frontier of blockchain innovation
