Airwallex powers financial operations for over 676,000 businesses worldwide, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok. Our Financial Markets team—the force behind our FX and liquidity infrastructure—is now pioneering stablecoin capabilities that will let customers and internal systems mint, hold, transfer, and settle tokenized currency at scale. We're looking for a senior backend engineer ready to architect distributed systems that bridge fiat and crypto, tackling real challenges in digital asset custody, smart contracts, and decentralized payments infrastructure.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead the design and build-out of stablecoin infrastructure from the ground up, within a high-impact engineering team
Architect secure systems for key management, transaction signing, gas fee optimization, and blockchain network integration
Own the full lifecycle of stablecoin operations—minting, burning, transferring, and reconciling balances across multiple chains
Build internal ledgering systems capable of tracking multi-chain, multi-token balances with precision and auditability
Integrate decentralized finance (DeFi) capabilities into Airwallex's existing FX and payments stack, enabling frictionless conversion between fiat and crypto
Partner closely with product, infrastructure, and compliance teams to ship secure, production-grade, and fully auditable services
What We're Looking For
5+ years of experience in object-oriented design and shipping production-grade software, with deep fluency in at least one strongly typed language (Kotlin, Java, C#, C++, or Rust)
Demonstrated experience building or integrating blockchain infrastructure—wallets, transaction flows, smart contracts, or distributed ledger systems
Strong grasp of system design principles for building resilient, scalable, and secure financial platforms
A builder's mindset: comfortable owning ambiguous problems and architecting solutions from first principles
Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, product, and compliance teams
Genuine curiosity about crypto, web3, and the future of decentralized financial infrastructure
Bonus Points
Experience with custody solutions, multi-signature wallets, or on-chain liquidity management
Familiarity with major blockchain networks, token standards, and the broader DeFi ecosystem
Exposure to regulatory and compliance considerations within digital asset platforms
Background in global payments or FX infrastructure at scale
