What You'll Be Doing
Architect and Implement Core Blockchain Protocols: Dive deep into the heart of various blockchain networks. You'll be instrumental in designing, building, and optimizing key components of our blockchain infrastructure, potentially including consensus mechanisms, peer-to-peer networking, transaction processing, and data storage.
Drive Research and Innovation: Stay at the forefront of blockchain advancements. You'll actively research emerging technologies, participate in protocol discussions across different ecosystems, and identify opportunities to integrate cutting-edge solutions that enhance performance, security, and scalability for Coinbase and the broader crypto community.
Security by Design: With great power comes great responsibility. You’ll embed security best practices into every line of code, collaborating with our security teams to ensure the resilience and integrity of our blockchain systems against the most sophisticated threats.
Performance Engineering: Optimize for speed and efficiency. You'll profile, benchmark, and improve the performance of mission-critical blockchain components, ensuring high throughput and low latency for all Coinbase operations.
Collaborate and Lead: Work alongside a world-class team of engineers, researchers, and product managers. You'll mentor junior engineers, contribute to technical strategy, and influence the architectural direction of foundational blockchain initiatives.
Contribute to Open Source: We believe in the power of open collaboration. You’ll have opportunities to contribute to and engage with the broader open-source blockchain community, representing Coinbase's commitment to advancing the ecosystem.
Troubleshoot and Resolve: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues within our blockchain infrastructure, often under pressure, ensuring the continuous operation of critical services.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of professional software development experience, with a significant focus on distributed systems, high-performance computing, or systems programming.
2+ years of hands-on experience specifically with blockchain technology, demonstrating a deep understanding of core blockchain concepts (e.g., cryptographic primitives, consensus algorithms, distributed ledger technology, smart contracts, P2P networks).
Proficiency in at least one, preferably multiple, low-level programming languages such as Go, Rust, C++, or Java.
Proven track record of designing, building, and deploying robust, scalable, and secure systems. Experience with large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure is highly valued.
Deep understanding of cryptography and its application within blockchain systems.
Experience with various blockchain architectures and protocols (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cosmos). A particular interest in layer 1 or layer 2 scaling solutions is a plus.
Comfort operating in complex, ambiguous environments and the ability to drive projects from conception to completion with minimal oversight.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
