Senior/Staff Backend Engineer, Identity Platform
About This Role
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the design, implementation, and operation of a hardened authentication (Auth) stack, multi-factor authentication methods, and next-gen key-management services. You'll reduce account-takeover risk and empower all product teams with robust identity foundations.
What You'll Be Doing
Architect and ship production-grade improvements to Phantom’s Auth stack, including secure enclaves, hardened token flows, and threat modeling.
Design and build systems leveraging modern secrets management technologies to enhance security and functionality.
Define and maintain stable, versioned authentication APIs for internal teams.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and rollouts of identity solutions.
What We're Looking For
7+ years of backend experience building large-scale, high-availability systems with Node.js, TypeScript, Rust, or NestJS.
Deep expertise in authentication protocols (OAuth2/OIDC, WebAuthn/Passkeys, OTP) and strong background in key management services (e.g., AWS KMS, Vault) and cryptography.
Strong system design and architecture skills, capable of translating requirements into scalable, maintainable, and fault-tolerant solutions.
Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical initiatives, and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Bonus Points
Familiarity with on-chain data, wallet integrations, or decentralized application (dApp) patterns.
